ELA

6th Grade ELA follows the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.  Over the course of the year, students will hone their skills in the areas of reading, writing, grammar, speaking and listening, thereby improving their overall communication efficacy and preparing for college and career.

  • Together in class we will practice strategies for fluency and comprehension as we read novels representing various genres.
  • Students will work towards improved spelling and vocabularies by studying literature based word lists and reviewing and actively looking for word roots as they appear in the novels and books they read.
  • They will receive direct instruction on English grammar and conventions, and practice putting those conventions to use in their own writing- in formal writing assignments and on student blogs which we will develop and grow throughout the course of the year.
  • Groups will hold collaborative discussions regularly throughout the year developing skills in the areas of communication, elaboration, collegiality, cooperation, and reflection.
